I do hope you check your older posted notes. You asked why do some comment. For me the blog note is of interest because of several things. First, it is true (or seemingly true) to that person's life. That always interests me. Second, it may be really funny and evokes both a smile and laugh. I always want to encourage more of that. Thirdly, the note is on a topic that interests me because I either have similar questions, or experiences, or I've developed some experience and approaches to that topic in the course of my life. Talking is deeply human - our cousins the chimps have a vocabulary of just 147 words - a blog is a conversation around a large dinner table, with people dropping in and out. If the conversation is intriguing, challenging, etc., then a comment is written. Getting attention? i guess it does, in the sense that good conversation grabs one's attention.

Commentary on blogs is like giving a personal response in a conversation, if I have a thought to share on a topic I will write a response if not I would just leave it as it is.. cheers

I blog to develop friendships, get noticed, and to comment on serious and the not so serious issues as well. I also give praise where praise is due. There are a few reasons to comment on blogs... and I am sure I will miss some as I think my way through them Some I like, a few jokes, funny, cheer me up - say thanks! Some strike a chord, are serios - add something useful if I can! Some are hot and sexy - well that us where the fun begins! Others are not my style of thing.. but can still add a comment anyway if I have an option. I will NEVER leave anything rude or offensive, and only once (maybe twice) did I seriously beg to differ when I left a comment or response! An Amazing Journey

I have wondered about that. I would also love to use blogs to get some discussion going on interesting topics but I gave up that idea a long time ago. Sadly the post and comment motivation is driven by the popularity leaderboards. And this is not all just vanity although vanity seems to be the prime motivation. I consider my posts (and also comments) to be a niche contribution not designed to appeal to the masses and other assorted sheep. I may be vain in saying as such but I am not interested in my popularity except in sofar as if you are not visible then nobody will read what you have to say and so I would be wasting my time writing. As they say, success begats success. But honestly I would rather have a bit of meaningful discussion with a regular handful of likeminded souls (or unlike minded souls who dont mind a heated argument) than to play to the circus.
