The finesses of these productions and timeless performances is all the more remarkable when you consider the paranoia with which Time must face the perpetual risk of being marked, beaten, killed, or, unfortunately, perhaps, (no doubt a fate even worse) just frittered away. Time, however, is also a skilled contortionist and escape artist, having the ability to stretch and contract, and, by means of a simple device called a nick, can achieve amazingly suspenseful effects on the world. Somewhat camera-shy, for obvious reasons, Time is also apparently a master of disguises. Certain special observers called poets have tried to render an image, but their depictions vary astonishingly. Some claim to have seen something like a bird on a wing, an ever rolling stream, a cradle endlessly rocking, or a finger writing on the wall. Others thought they saw a vagrant gipsy, a weaver, or somebody on the make and/or march. There are even those (among the more affluent and/or extremely lucky and/or some very well kept poets) to whom Time looks very much like Money.
