What an Idea!!
What an Idea!!
As some of you may know, I am in the travel industry. A woman just came in to purchase a ticket for her son who will be traveling unaccompanied across the country. If you have ever tried doing this, you may know that the airlines have very specific rules about what flights you can and cannot book a child on. You might also know that they now charge a fee, so that an airline employee accompanies the child from place to place through their journey. For a flight with a connection, that fee is typically $75 one way. It isn't that the same employee travels with the child, but they are supervized the entire way -- Someone meets them at the gate, takes them to the next gate, etc.
In the case of this particular customer and her son, the child is 13. I had to research the rules for her, and I found that for a 13 year old, it is mandatory that they pay for this fee and be escorted along for their trip. However, once you're 14, the service is still available, but it is an option. In other words, if you're over 14, for $75 you could be escorted the entire way through your trip.
I am not 14. However, the idea of having a curvy airline employee hold my hand through my long travels is somehow appealing... and it might be worth $75, for the right airline employee.
Thirty years ago, the chances of getting a curvy airline employee would have been almost a lock. Today, there are lots of possibilities, not all of them curvy, and not all of them female.
Ah, but you can dream!
