Duck! !! Or at least some other type of bird!

For those of you that know me, know what I do for a living. Those who don't I shall tell you. I work with our wonderful railway maintenance workers. Ok, I have to blow my own trumpet, as most commuters usually want to kill us, or at least do us some form of bodily harm, when we make their train late in the morning. All I can say for that is sorry, but sometimes things can be beyond our control & it might just take us a little longer to fix the problem. I came across just such a thing last weekend. Part of my job, is to brief people on the dangers of working out on track. ![]() This can include:- Keeping a lookout for trains still thundering past the site on the opposite track. Engineering trains moving on the same bit of track we are working on. Large diggers & dozers working. Hazardous materials buried under the track, (this also includes the contents of all the trains toilets). Poisonous plants. Electrical overhead cables & electrified 3rd rails. Asbestos, etc. The list does go on, but I wont bore you any more. ![]() The other things we have to tell them about is the different kinds of wildlife we could encounter. Badger setts. Newts, (£2000 a newt if you kill one, by the way). Endangered plant life etc. But the best one I had to tell people about was while I was working down the coast at the weekend. Killer seagulls from hell! We had to fix a piece of track that run beside their nests & the bastard birds kept on attacking the workmen. Dive bombing them from a great height & they are not small birds, they are big fuckers, when you get up close & personal, as they were trying to do! But I did have a great problem trying to tell the men, before they went out on track to be aware of them, with a straight face. They all thought I was taking the piss! They all found out, very soon, that I wasn't! Life isn't about how many breaths you take, but about the moments that take your breath away!

While staying at an oceanfront condo last year I read a sign in the lobby. "Please do not feed the seagulls. They have loud mouths, many relatives, and no manners." I had fun one day watching one try to eat a whole hot-dog weiner. You would just have to see it to believe it. Just Another Geek on Adult FriendFinder

It's a case of blink & you will miss it. ![]() If you think of it, a hot-dog wiener is about the size of a fish & I have seen how fast one of them can slip down a seagulls throat! It was fun, the look of sheer horror on their faces, when the men came back for a break, after they had an encounter with a gulls. Ok, so the badger got a mention. What about the humble Hedgehog? Are they smart enough not to go near the railway lines? You know I am stir crazy about them, you keep adding to my collection. Can't believe they wouldn't get a mention. You could box some up that are in danger of the trains, and send me them over. I could start a breeding colony for the sake of them ever becoming endangered. Why should New Zealand have them and not Oz? Sorry, got off the topic of dangerous seagulls. You could supply the workers with hats with eyes on the top. Seems to work here when the Bloody Magpies are nesting. Can just see the fully grown men all wearing hats with eyes on them. Lol

Lol So they really don't get a mention. And as to them being dangerous, I think they are in more danger of being stepped on by the workmen, with their steel toe capped boots, than them causing any problems with trains! ![]() Mind you, that would make an interesting talk! Be aware, hedgehogs have been found in the area. Take care, as they have been known to attack on site & are capable of de-railing locos! ![]() Life isn't about how many breaths you take, but about the moments that take your breath away! ![]()
