Personally I love Starbucks, my venti soy 160' latte, loaded with vanilla powder is the best pick me up ever! And my tall soy tazo chai is such a nice spicy treat before bed too.

Starbucks has their own kind of language and it's so cool to hear them call out the drinks, everyone who goes has their own order and I'd love to hear yours too.

My question though is- "is Starbucks great coffee or a great scam?"
What do you think?
Starbucks is great coffe & well worth the price!
Starbucks is good but I hate to pay that kind of money for coffee.
Starbucks is the perfect scam high prices with crappy coffee- lol
Satrbucks is way too over priced I like it but I think it's a scam.
Never had it because it's too damn expensive!
Never had bc I don't drink coffee.

Wow - you are the first Canadian I know of who prefers Starbucks over Tim Hortons! LOL

I was living in the beaches part of Toronto, ON, three years ago. There was a Starbucks there along Queen Street East, but none of my friends and the locals I got to know went there - they all went to Tim Hortons instead.

Disgusting coffee. Obscenely overpriced. That could be why they shut shop in so many places in Aus.

I have tried their coffee and it sucks!
However I do like the Chai tea.

Venti 8 pumps no fat no water no foam chai extra hot ( it is never hot enough)..

The coffee is so strong and bitter,i could make two large cups of coffee from it and then add flavorings to make it drinkable. So i just stop at the local corner store, and for less that $2.00 i can have a good cup of real coffee the way i like it.Not wasting my money on that overpriced burnt stuff.YUCK!!!

Starbucks is too high-priced and like others have said it does taste burned and over-roasted.

I'd much rather have McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, or Tim Horton's for chain store coffee. Best is a nice Mom & Pop place locally.

If you get your Coffee at a Barnes and Nobles book Store and are a member then you get inexpensive good coffee.

Too expensive, too complex and too successful. I always feel guilty after buying a bucket sized cup from a chain place, would much rather have a little quality from a family run place.

If you stay away from the fancy makes and just go with the brewed coffee, it is better and just as inexpensive as Dunkin, Honey Dew and most of the other chain brands.

The flavor of coffee is affected by several factors, some of which include the time since grinding the bean, time since roasting, cleanliness of brewing equipment, bean and water quality. The type of bean you use (Arabica or Robusta) will effect the flavor as well.

Coffee crops vary from season to season just like grapes for wine. The method of packaging can also affect coffee flavor due to the level of built up CO2 and exposure to oxygen.

Starbuck's coffee to me is not a quality coffee! The beans are a high mix of Aribica and Robusta along with past crop (old) beans. They are, as mentioned above, way over roasted and stored in large, often open, vats in the store.

When purchasing coffee, the best bet is to select vacuum packed coffee with a release valve to allow the CO2 to escape and prevent oxygen in. Never freeze your coffee and store it out of direct light.

I've learned to enjoy the flavor of a gourmet 100% Aribica bean that has been freshly roasted. I always grind my own beans. On occassion, for the added kick of caffiene, I will add a fresh Robusta. Top it off with Amaretto and Vanilla butter cream and I am in heaven!

We like good ol' Folgers plain & black. Therefore, we have no use for a starbuck's that doesn't know what real coffee is and wants to charge out the ass for it.

OK OK I HAVE to sound off on this one!! First, I am a chef. Second, I have a very developed palate and nose. Third, I Do like coffe.

SOOOOOO, the question is Is Starbucks a rip off?? Answer-YES!! But it is also pure genius. AS Americans cannot develop anything but an over dulled palate and sense of taste without extremes, then the owner is a genius. It seems Americans can't taste anything unless it is so over the top that they are hooked on just one flavor. This seems to be a recent trend I see in average commercial foods here in the USA-- one flavor in depth. It is sad considering the availability of such educations as TV shows and such which generate interest but still Americans need pictures in order to order their food (eg. McDonald's menu board). LOL

As for taste alone Starbucks is very over roasted to the point of being Sharp to the tongue. Many people describe this as bitter but actually it is sharp. This is as far as you can roast a coffee bean before you actually burn the oils held within it. Nay farther and you have crap. Pure and simple. It also is a very short lived taste and duration on the palate causing to taste more to keep the flavor in your mouth longer. A mush better and slower roast at a lower temperature will cox the best flavors out of the bean best. Although this is not Starbucks' mission so quick and easy is the answer here.

Look for a good overall flavor when you select a coffee. Choose one that lingers on your tongue and has a wonderful and enjoyable finish. It should have a nice change in flavor maybe 2 or 3 times then a not too strong or sharp ending. You will enjoy your coffee so much more slowly and fully then.

I hope this has educated you some. Thanks.

A friend bought me a Star bucks coffee one morning on the way to work after bragging about it, in the 43 miles to work I couldn't drink more than a 1/8 cup and when we got to work I dumped the rest out very bitter like 2 day old Dunkin Donuts crap coffee I stop at speedway gas and enjoy a good cup of fresh coffee that I can mix anyway I want and is reasonably priced.

I am a Seattle native and was always proud of Starbucks and the way they did business. It was great living in Boston and being able to go get a Seattle coffee anytime. Then the hemogeny of it all started to get to me and I very infrequently went there but did not actually have any problem with the company, they were after all just doing business. Then they went and bought the Sonics and when Seattle did not kiss Howard Schultz' ass he sold my hometown team to that scumbag from Oklahoma who lied thru his teeth about keeping the team in Seattle. Poor Howard claims he did not know they would move. Well he should have as plenty of Seattle fans knew right away. So fuck Starbucks, they will never get a penny of my money again, I will sooner suffer thru a lack of caffeine headache than support those bastards.

Its horrible coffee. They do burn their coffee (its over cooked). Its like a politics game. They just make their name known... and its a status symbol for some people more than anything. Most people who drink their cofffee don't even LIKE coffee. thats because they use so much sugar and cream and flavors, and such a strong burnt coffeee that it evens out the sweetness just a little bit. There are usually local coffee shops everywhere there is a starbucks. Find it,get better coffee, and pay less. Starbucks is a standard chain look. To get the TRUE meaning of a coffee shop, local is the way to go.

Starbucks did not even win best coffee in it's founding state - Washington, even with all those Seattlites voting who supposedly love it.
Give me a good Latte stand with a sexy gal and good coffee over Starbucks any day. Better coffee at a lesser price and the view is a lot better.

I've just arrived in Winston-Salem from NYC, and haven't gotten to a Starbuck's here yet.

I agree that it's high-priced; but by NYC standards, the coffee is a very good to excellent blend, always hot, and always served well, & for that, I'm willing to pay a bit more. Also, the ambience is light and comfortable, conversations are easy, and laptop plug-ins are always available.

I drink my coffee black without sugar - so the bitterness is okay with me.

It's over priced. The coffee tastes burned. The strategically placed plastic fruit is disturbing.

Thankfully there is a coffee franchise out of Boston called Beaners.

The coffee taste much better, the prices are reasonable. And you get better conversation.
