Que Sarah, Sarah

First things first - Happy Birthday America! I know that you all must have heard that Sarah Palin anounced yesterday that she is stepping down as Alaska's governor. Yep, she held a small and hastily put together press conference to announce it. On a Friday afternoon no less, a time when stories usually get released to get buried. Don't know about you but I'm not buying for one minute that Sarah Palin is making the proverbial "old soldier" move and just "fade away." No way! The woman is much too souped up! Way too pumped up. Pumped up, partly because of her mix up with David Letterman a few weeks back. I'm sure that she knows that she won that one... Kinda. I think that she's bought into her own hype. I could only imagine the amount of mail that she received in support of her after Letterman's inept attempt at humor at Bristol's expense. Letterman really should have known better. Should have known that Sarah is an old pro at playing the victim of the media and press. And she'll milk it for whatever its worth too. In that department - she's got game! Letterman knows now though. You betcha! Yeah, Sarah must have seen those bags of mail coming in and said: "THEY LIKE ME, THEY LIKE ME, THEY REALLY, REALLY LIKE ME!!!" Poor thing, must have forgotten that this is a nation of 300 million. So when a public figure gets a couple of million pieces of supportive mail - they had better not get too pumped up! It sure doesn't mean that a couple of million people in your corner makes you Presidential material. Don't know how many of you saw the press conference that she gave. She wore the classic Republican red jacket top that they love to wear. The kind that goes so high up the neck that you could strangle yourself. As for her statements... I've got one word - BAZAAR! She hyperventilated at every sentence. Her statements were filled with the usual Palin ramblings and platitudes. She closed her final set of ramblings with a quote attributed to Douglas MacArthur - "We are not retreating, we are advancing in another direction." The poor darlin' should have fact checked that one because it turns out that MacArthur never said it. I'm wondering if that piece in Vanity Fair could have triggered this. Or could it have been the piece that CBS news did on her? It speaks of angry e-mails and infighting with staff during the McCain campaign. There's no shortage of possibilities. And nobody really understands why or what she's up to. It's actually quite amusing watching and listening to the various pundits try to figure this one out. LOL! There's been Alaskan press that got into how authorities have spent 300 thousand dollars investigating ethics allegations against her. There's a press report that claims that she just signed a seven figure book deal. There are even rumors of an investigation on her for an iceberg scandal. Rumors about embezzlement too. Rumors and rumors of rumors. It's pretty wild and the press is in a feeding frenzy trying to get to the bottom of it. Having a hard time at it too because most of their staff is vacationing right now. Curious if she did this on purpose for just that reason. Sort of a payback for the bad press. I wonder if Tina Fey is brushing up her Palin for tonight's SNL. She's made grumblings about being for "change agents" inside the Republican Party as well as "outside of it." Mmm, perhaps a third-party bid? Never know with ole Sarah. Don't underestimate her now, less than a year ago 98% of America never even heard of her. Some even say that this is a brilliant move on her behalf in order to position herself to run for President. Those people are either delusional, or smoking their sox. I mean really now, who's going to trust this quitter to run a Presidential administration? And can you imagine the commercials that her opponents would run? Sarah Palin, elect her and she's guaranteed to serve you for half of her elected term. Please, don't bother to write and tell me that I'm wrong and being unfair to her - BS!!! This is a woman that ran for the Alaska Governorship because she wanted to "effect change." That's right! That's what she ran on! Now two years into her term she quits!?! She also said that she didn’t want to just “go with the flow,” that “only dead fish go with the flow.” Ahh, and so does dead wood Sarah! And dig this peeps; one of her reasons for stepping down is because she says that she doesn't want to be a "lame duck" governor. What the!?! She's got close to two years left to the end of her term!!! Here she is: "let me use a comfortable analogy for me - and that's sports - basketball - and I use it because you are naive if you don't see a full court press on the national level, picking away right now. A good point guard - Here's what she does - She drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her head up because she needs to keep her eye on the basket. And she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can win. And that is what I'm doing, keeping our eye on the ball. Representing sound priorities, they include energy independence and smaller government and national security, freedom, and I know when it's time to pass the ball." Is it any clearer to you now? I mean - HUH!?! Is she living in a time warp? Yeah, that's it... She's back in the day when she was Sarahcuda the Wasilla point guard. I mean, what else could it be? Here's another good bite: "I thought about, well how much fun some governors have as a 'lame duck.' They maybe travel around their state, travel the other states. Maybe take an international trade mission tour. So many politicians do that, and then I thought, that's what's wrong! They except that lame duck status and they draw a pay check. I'm not going to put Alaskans thought that. I promised efficiency! That's not how I'm wired! I'm not wired to operate under the same ole politics as usual." Yeah, you know how that ole "politics as usual" works don't you? It's when you get elected to a four year term and you actually serve a four year term! No not Sarah, she's "wired" differently! Honestly now, how are you going to hold the office of President when you can't even hang Governing a state with only two dozen people in it? Personally it wouldn't shock me in the least if she took up residence in the lower 48, say a state like Iowa. Once there she starts pressing the flesh and doing her hockey mom routine. Then comes 2010 and she announces that she's running for President. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. In fact, I expect it! Hoping for it! And you know what? I've never donated to a republican campaign in my life but you better believe that if she decides to run, she can count on me to make a donation.

Palin also has a tie in with Peter Wager and the New Apostolic Reformation that boast 350 million members which is a misnomer because what they are doing is taping into the thousands of nondenominational churches around the world, like the Assembly of God church that Palin attends. One of the cornerstone scriptures they use as a base for their movement is Ephesians 4: 11, where Paul says that Christ , “it was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers. I watched a bit of Wagner’s video where he says that people are willing to accept, teachers, pastors and evangelists but not someone as a prophet or apostle. You see they are setting themselves up to be the apostles and prophets (profits) for(from) these millions of nonaffiliated Christians. I think that it is a bit ironic they do not include Mormons in their grouping because they are considered a cult to them–and here I thought Joseph was suppose to be a modern day profit. They don’t include the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses because they know they cannot recruit them. The New Apostolic Reformation is the name that Wagner has given to the structure that he formed in the late 1990s to bring together numerous strands of the "Third Wave of the Holy Spirit" into a distinct and identifiable structure. Sarah Palin has been anointed through the laying on of hands in at least four publicized ceremonies. The New Apostolic Reformation is now a distinct entity with its own theology, apostolic networks, schools, school accreditation system, conferences, and media. The Apostolic structure, as defined by Wagner, provides a network of authority or "apostolic covering." Each of Wagner's approximately 500 Apostles has networks of their own, some claiming hundreds or even thousands of ministries under their authority. They view themselves as conducting "the most radical restructuring of Christianity since the Reformation" and believe they are unifying an end time church that will harvest millions of souls before the return of Jesus.

The Republican party is just an arm of Comedy Central. They exist only to provide Stewart and Colbert with material. Something funny about this one. Not "Ha Ha" funny either. But no one ever said Sarah was intelligent. "McVeigh had the right idea, wrong address." "This ain't Dodge City, and you ain't Bill Hickok."

I think more politicians should quit. Is Sarah leading the wave? I doubt it. I would have thought more of the readers of this blog would have wanted more Republicans to quit their jobs though. Probably would be less Bush bitching these days if he had quit while his polls showed higher ratings. Establishing residency in a different state is nothing new, even if Palin were bright enough to think of it. The Clintons still from where Bill was guv? To me, both major political parties ae amusing. It does not seem to matter which holds office. Comedians will always look to them for material, as they should. And now, Al Frankin has been certified as one of the best of the political comedians, another comedian turned to politics. Not exactly breaking new ground, but interesting and amusing. Keep smiling! ![]() Labore pro Pacem

I see no advantage to leaving a political office that will end in plenty of time for the presidential campaign anyhow. I don't think Governor, excuse me, former Governor Palin's maneuvering does anything to address her deficiencies in foreign policy, or scandalous record. The only conclusion I can come to is that she operates in a vacuum, other than the one between her ears that is. If she plans on running for president she will need some help, and I know right where she can get it. She can go to rehab, they specialize in helping quitters. I Swami Johnny see's all, knows all, tells very little.

A quote from Sarah Palin: "People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska. Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine." But not so great an honor she can finish the job she was elected to do. After all, she's all the Republican party has, she can do whatever she wants Just like Rick Santorum here in PA, he was the conservative poster boy 10 years ago. Then he did so much stupid bizarre stuff, he couldn't get re-elected

I'm surprised you didn't touch on the Alaska Independence Party, and her husband Todd. Her explanation was that he just checked the box on voter registration, like so many people do, not realizing the party affiliation. He was just checking 'independent' as opposed to "D" or "R". Makes him a rather naive native Alaskan at best. And yet you can see on youtube where she addresses same party in a video congratulating them on some anniversary. I think there is a scandal brewing. Many aspects of her platform that got her elected in Alaska were compromised by her national position. I see it to be something to do with "Big Oil" and the money that Alaskan staters are getting now, but maybe are gonna lose soon. Once you go Fed, you never go back. and for those who think State's rightists are unAmerican, I suggest you have not read, and do not comprehend the Constitution. (It's the Tenth Amendment) "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. " Federalization of America will reverse this aspect of our key document, a document DESIGNED to prevent tyranny.

Take a few days off, and not only does Gin come out with a flurry of postings for me to catch up on, but Sarah tops herself in the bizarre department. Maybe Michael's unexpected and much-discussed passing gave her a notion to bounce around in that empty space between her ears: the title of "Whacko" is up for grabs, so I should cut and run on the governorship, and seize the day, so to speak. Starting with a bizarrely-timed and apparently hastily thrown together announcement, with a dramatically breathy and platitude-laced ramble, to reinforce the surreal aspect. In all seriousness, I think Tango may be hitting closest to the mark - this reads less like she's moving towards a presidential run, or any other high office, and more like she's running from something - something soon to shit the fan, perhaps, in addition to the accusations and allegations already dogging her. Although, because it was such a strange way and timing to release the story, she has gotten more attention than she might have otherwise. Maybe she believes any press is good press. Even with her level of disconnect from reality and realpolitik, it's hard to see how she could be so clueless about the optics of quitting as governor a little over the halfway mark. Although, as Gin pointed out, maybe she thinks the sympathy and attention she got from Letterman's comment . As an aside, I saw Letterman that night, and I laughed my ass off at the Top 10 list, it seemed very apt and as much self-deprecating New York/Letterman humour as targeting Palin; and not particularly mean-spirited - after all, much of comedy is cutting. It also seemed clear to me the comment about A-Rod knocking up Palin's daughter during the seventh inning stretch was a shot at A-Rod, not Bristol, or any of the underage Palin daughters - I knew Palin was in New York with one of her daughters, but never saw in the news which one it was, so I assumed it was the "Do as I say, not as I do" public moralist, Bristol. Like 99.9% of viewers, I'm sure. And given that Bristol has tried to turn her bad judgment into a moral lesson for others, she has sort of put herself out there for some ridicule. I quite agree, Gin, that just played to Palin's knack for spinning the media victim angle yet again, turning Letterman's admittedly crude remark into a story suggesting he advocated the (statutory) of her daughter. I guess we just have to wait and see when the other shoe drops, what will spill out on, or for Palin.

Im Sure He hates the fact that Michael Jackson died as it took the news of her resign and made it a middle of the newspaper story. To think I use to like her before the 2008 race. But politicians are good at disappointing. Now that I know a lot about her, I truly question the mentality of Alaskans for every electing her.
