Well, ionlyshow is back, which is a Good Thing, but the underlying issue is still there, which is not.

The problem is viewers who choose to be abusive to people on cam. Sure, those on cam can try to ignore it, but realistically that can be pretty difficult.

I can't speak for other cammers but I try to read and answer all my pages - not "accept", because I find that too distracting by far, but respond to them - which means I'm constantly watching my own cam and the pages box on the left hand side of the screen. As well as the main chat room, to the best of my ability.

So, if someone pages me, I read it. I can't help but, unless I choose not to look at *any* pages... which would change the whole format of MagnaFreeRadio pretty drastically, and NOT for the better, IMHO.

Repeated rude, insulting, and abusive pages I find hard to ignore... yes, it *should* be possible, but it's difficult, trust me. When someone persists in telling me I'm a slag, a whore, a bitch; that they're going to fuck me ‘til I bleed, that I want to be beaten or , that I deserve it, I'm asking for it, or simply that I'm repulsive or stupid or boring, or that they know who I am and where I live and... or that I should do 'X', or that they're going to...

It's hard to ignore that amount of hatred pouring through the wires, it's deeply disturbing to me - as it should be to anyone, male or female.

Booting someone off the cam is difficult when you have over a hundred people to search through for the offender (pretty much any woman on cam will have over a hundred viewers), and often ineffective... they can usually reload in a matter of minutes, if not sooner.

Blocking pages selectively from viewers would be grand. I honestly don't care if the viewer continues to watch me, I just don't want to have to deal with their comments. If I could click on the offending pages, hit 'ignore', and have that person sent straight to 'iggy land’ (just like 'ignoring' people in chat, where it’s easy to make them disappear forever and ever amen) ‒ well, wouldn’t *that* be a Fine Thing!

I’m willing to bet most people on cam ‒ male or female ‒ would like this option, and there would likely be more people on cam if it *was* an option.

So why not get off your sweet little duffs and petition the Powers That Be for it? Do it for me, do it for yourselves, do it for ionlyshow, do it for the possibility of having more women on cam to browse through, do it for any reason you choose.

Just do it.

OK, here's a sweet bit of irony for you.

I had left a comment on your previous blog, saying that I would be overjoyed to be able to block the pages that say...[insert list of various repellant topics]. I just went back to see if you had responded to it and it is flagged with:

"This comment was not approved for the following reason: Banned Topics".

So - they are able to censor my basically innocent blog comment but apparently not able to block the same content when someone is paging me on web cam *rolling eyes*

Where would you suggest we petition - the site support blog? And would you be OK with linking to this post, since you've expressed the issue more eloquently than most of us would?

magnaotter replies on 5/12/2009 7:16 pm:
irony, indeed. What ballocks! And what on earth was the 'banned topic'? Silly site monkeys.

Site support blog is as good a place to start as any, I suppose... my thought is that if enough people whinge about this, it might actually have some effect - particularly if the whingers are *paying* members.

Link to my blog if you want, by all means. Post it on *your* blog. Try to get as many people as possible to speak on this issue so that it's clearly understood that it is an issue, and one that many members feel is important.

and, btw, hi smarty! Good to see you.

Damn,

I had some idea of the extent, but apparently I was more of an ostrich burying my head in the sand. If I have done that to any woman, I truly and immediately apologize for my behavior and will endeavor to avoid that in the future. How hard is it to just close the cam if you don't like what you are seeing and move on to the next one? I realize alot of men find this to be their only sexual outlet, but damn, get real, move on and leave the ladies alone...There is old saying out there, if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing.
On be half of all the asshole males out here in never never land, I apologize.

non

magnaotter replies on 5/12/2009 7:30 pm:
O, non, *you* have nothing to apologize for! You're always polite to the nth degree - and it *is* appreciated, along with your friendship and kindness.

Though I do understand... it's like being abroad during the last presidency, when I felt I had to make it clear that *I* didn't vote for him, it wasn't *my* fault. The shame of belonging to a group when what some members of that group are doing *is* shameful.

I hasten to add that the majority of men and women who page me aren't as bad as the examples listed above - most pages are completely acceptable or complimentary or add to the conversation. Unfortunately, the bad ones are often *very* bad, and when someone takes into their head to harass a woman on cam repeatedly (which has happened to me not infrequently), that creates real problems.

As you said, there's never any reason to go out of your way to page a person with an offensive or rude remark - if you don't like what you see, it's far simpler to simply close that cam and open another.

Ah, the humanity!

and thanks, non.

I had no idea this was happening. I惴 mostly blogging here and barely ever on the IM and even more rarely on cam. I惴 very sad to hear about this. I mean, oggling women on cam I get but attacking and harassing them?
I can only agre that it should be that easy, I mean, by going on cam you愉e basically doing them a favour, you愉e choosing to show yourself off or whatever and if they don愒 like what they see than it愀 the easiest thing in the world to move on.
Sometimes it just seems like this site is on a constant downwards spiral. I really hope it gets fixed and I hope you don愒 mind if I mention this to some other bloggers.

Here are some of my latest poems and stories:

A perfect marriage? (Or: When the kids are away the parents will play...)
What I wish awaited me at home when I came home today...
A beach-fantasy (as suggested by a lovely Lady)

People tell me to cover up the pages and not read them, but I like reading them, I have 'regulars' who interact via the pages with funny, interesting comments every time I cam and ignoring all of them is unfair to those who are polite and nice..

Evidently some men get off on it.
One guy was paging me some vile stuff the other day and I accepted the page and asked what he thought he was doing, and he replied..
"you like this stuff, it turns you on" well thats news to me, if I want vulgar comments I'll ask for them, coming from people I know on the pages well, is one thing, receiving it because they think I deserve it is another..

If I have 1000 people watching chances are only 10% will show up on the who is watching section so I can't ban or remove the offending watcher, and some people don't even watch, they just page, if you click decline or ignore that only declines the first page they send, they can keep paging and the others still get through.
I'd like to be able to add their profile name to block list so they can never page me or watch me again..
I don't see why we should have to put up with it..
In future I shall open the offending page, copy the text and send it to the abuse team without mentioning it to anyone watching..

I bet loads of women get abuse when they cam and just ignore it or turn off their cam and never cam again, but this doesn't stop the problem it's just brushed under the carpet, as it were..

and as you saw, if we highlight it, we are penalised..

the system is in favour of the watcher and not the cammer..

Exactly my reality.

And I, too, believe many women stop camming because of abusive pages, or cam less frequently because of this problem. I know it's disrupted my camming at times. If I'm simply hanging out and chatting, it's easy to mock the offending page, or ignore it, and I usually don't find it *that* disturbing - but if I'm being a bit more *ahem* intimate, it's a different matter altogether.

Lorraine, you're in an excellent position to help change the system so that 'ignoring' pages changes to something more meaningful and useful. If a person on cam could 'ignore' a page and have it mean that the person paging was truly ignored (as it does in chat, where that person disappears henceforth and forever from your world view), that would solve the problem nicely, IMO.

You have a huge fan base, and many many friends (male, female, and other) on site - look at the outcry that followed your banning. And the speedy results from that outcry. Many many more people read your blog than will ever read mine - take advantage of that, and get people writing! Change the system.

because, really, wouldn't it be fine?

I don't really get the nastiness one occasionally finds... isn't this supposed to be fun?
Some people are just nasty and love to spread their nastiness wherever they go. They even believe that they are entitled to it simply because they have a membership here and that every woman here should bow to what they want, regardless.

Magnaotter,

I'm one of the ones that seldom gets on cam and I do cover up the pages so I don't have to read the vile filth that some say. I'm not an exhibitionist and only turn it on when talking with friends in the chat room, face only. I don't need or want the IMC up when I do. I wish I didn't have to cover it up because there might be someone I'd like to talk to.

They need to make the cams independent for those who don't want the IMC on when they turn on their cams.

For those that do enjoy being on cam and want to read the messages, there really should be an immediate block feature that all you need do it hit the button, confirm and they are gone for good. I know some of the bile some can spew out and no one should have to be subjected to it.

I'm really glad Ionly was able to get back on and it is worse that SHE has to promise to be a good girl and behave.

magnaotter replies on 5/13/2009 9:59 am:
Yup, it's great that ionly is back! And it'd be even better if she didn't *still* have to deal with abusive pages, along with the rest of us...

NascarFox - you're another of the really popular bloggers and people on here - would you consider mentioning this on your blog, and encouraging people to write to the Powers That Be about it?

Like ionlyshow, you have a far greater number of people you reach than I do, and if enough people presented this as something that is important to them, it might get instituted.

thanks, you

I'm not sure how much it will help, but I did send some feed back to the powers that be by clicking on the "help" link at the top of the page...then scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking on the "How do I submit a suggestion for improvement?" link. I guess if enough members complain...just maybe....

magnaotter replies on 5/13/2009 2:36 pm:
thanks you!

my hope is that enough people ask, there's a chance of change... and it's better than doing nothing, innit?

I've always believed that if someone was gracious enough to share their webcam sessions, it is my responsibility to treat them with respect and appreciation, whether they're clothed or naked; sitting quietly of fucking like rabbits...
I will occasionally IM them with a compliment or request, but if I don't get a reply, I have to realize that I'm not the only one doing the same...
The only time I ever really complained or reported someone was on another site when an unmarried couple was fucking and S&M'ing (complete with tools) while the woman's teenage son was sitting there at the kitchen table doing his homework!!!!! THAT, I had to report!

Pleasing women in unbelievable ways for 45 years...
You could be next...

magnaotter replies on 5/13/2009 5:44 pm:
And well you should have reported that! A bit OTT, besides the obvious bit about having a minor on cam. I would hope that anyone seeing that would have reported it.

I always have my audio on, and I try to respond to every page I get... if it's a suggestion or offer I'm not interested in, I let the person know. If it's a problem with the cam or the sound - and it's fixable rather than a site screw up - I want to know. If it's a problem with what's on cam, or a demand to do something... that's their problem, and I'm not McDonald's, I don't take orders.

And if you don't like what's going on, move on to the next cam... it's really not hard.

If people go on cam the least viewers can do is respect them.

It would be marvelous if...Customer Service here actually worked...it does not...and it probably never will...if anyone has the chance...peruse the Terms Of Use for this site...what it basically says is...anything you post here belongs to us (Various) and we can do with it what ever we want...and we will be held harmless if anything goes awry with your computer...they believe in their verbiage that they have covered their "virtual asses". Here in the good old USofA we have some new laws concerning cyberspace...one of which is "cyberbullying/cyberstalking"...anyone who aids and abets this sort of behavior can be prosecuted for it...People want to think that they are just "anonymous entities on the web" believe you are not...with enough time and effort everyone can be found. I invite you to my blog to see what is happening...
