Shake That Thing!

Ladies and gentlemen, I come before you this day to laud to you the beauty that is dancing. After my husband and I moved back to Santa Cruz, we happened upon this amazing gentleman that has become an exceptional friend and companion, and he became my dancing buddy. But for the last two months, he’s been on the prowl for a girlfriend, and well . . . we all know what everyone assumes when a man and a woman are out together . . . that they’re a couple. So, I was effectively ruining his chances of landing a woman, so, he started going dancing without me. It’s all good, he needs his own thing, and so, I’m more than happy to be happy for him. But I tell ya . . . these last two months, my husband was making noises to the tune of, “So, honey . . . when are you gonna start going to the gym, again?” I looked in the mirror, the other day, after putting on one of my cute outfits, and I had to agree that I had, indeed, gained a little weight. Anyway . . . one of my girlfriends call me up last night and said, “Hey, wanna go dancing with me?!” And since I hadn’t been for a while, I thought, “Oh, hell YES!”

And off we were, Gothed out, dressed in our necronic best, shaking our tail feathers on the floor. And let me tell you . . . I danced for 45 minutes straight, without a break, and my legs were killing me! I’m convinced that the DJ was trying to kill me, because every time I tried to leave the floor, he’d play something else that I just really wanted to dance to. The vicious bastard! My quads were burning, my knees aching, and my gluts were on fire . . . but wow! After only about 20 minutes, I could actually start to feel my quads tightening up. It was insane!

So, for all those people out there that don’t understand the medicinal value of a night out dancing, here’s the bottom line. Dancing is GOOD FOR YOU! It’s good for your boyfriend/girlfriend, your wife/husband, your best friend, your kids, your siblings . . . it’s good for everyone. Not only is it a complete cardiovascular workout, but the more you sweat the healthier your skin is, because sweating cleans out your pours, and the reason people have most skin issues is because their pores don’t get as clean as they need to. Also, endorphins are released when you engage in physical activity like dancing, and endorphins make you feel happy, seeing as how, of the three compounds in your body that make up endorphins, two are pain killers and the other is an upper . . . lol. So, all in all, dancing is a wonderful thing! And the better you dance, the more appealing you usually are to the opposite sex, so, all in all . . .dancing is an awesome thing!

Absolutely! Is it any wonder that many of the cardivasular work-outs are based on dance? Dance is one of the best overall exercises for the whole body...

... I just wish I didn't fall over dancing... balance/inner ear problems from childhood. So I dance at home where noone can see me fall down and I can bounce off the walls and look as idiotic/spastic as I want! haha

Kind of like singing in the car with the windows rolled up

As for the sweating, I've started remodeling one of my bathrooms into a steam sauna. Most of my house is in earth tones, but I'm going to tile the entire room in swimming pool colors of blue and white with mosaic tiles in a graduated pattern. I'm excedingly impatient to start sweating!

I'd love to know where to get gothed out and dance in the greater Bay area. My favorite place closed. Care to share?
