whassup...

Slang is a very common thing and it changes from one generation to the next...

I discovered that i no longer understand the current slang when someone emailed me using the slang...

The very first word in the email...you guessed it...Whassup?...That is about the only word that i fully understood...The rest i sorta got the gist of...

Please people if you decide to spend the time to email someone...use words that others can understand...

Is whassup a form of hello in this new language...there are so many different ways of saying things...its a wonder that English is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn...

How do you expect me to post a sensible response with you sitting there like that?

Now that I am done drooling over your picture I also wonder if some of the things I have seen here are written by real people that went to school or is this like new math of a few years ago, new English? I read all the time about how poor our schools are doing and is this the result of it?

There are several words and phrases that I don't get. I had the hardest time with a lot of slang. I used to wonder what a "player hater" was, when someone asked if I "was down that," I said, "No, I enjoy it," and I still don't know "what it is."

Now that I got the rant outta the way, it's time to appreciate your pic. Wow!

Come into my realm! You aren't afraid...are you?

You are so very, very hot. I've read your profile and even though on a.f.f. profiles, some things may not be accurately described by one word, I respect your boundaries. I would however love to be in your network and would love your opinion on a couple of my post.
Thanks,

I'd eat off that table, while you were still on it. Whassup is s slang word popularized by Budweiser beer commercials several years ago. In Ebonics, it's a contraction of "what's" and "up."

The Road Taken, Leaving Confusion Behind

Let's take a short, yet personally rewarding trip together.

Do I believe in Karma, or am I merely ignorant? Do I/we lead, or do I/we follow? Is my cup half full, or is it half empty? If Orwell and 1984 are long past, is the future now certain? Is life a long and winding road, or is it merely a passing cliche? Fear not oh voyager, let's look at life together! (I dare say–and hope–that you may find a small measure of your own philosophy in my words, as well!)

If I refuse to evolve, I only limit myself.

Any first level thought is easily parried, as like unto like...The pen is mightier than the sword, yet actions speak louder than words.

What you have to work with is not nearly as important as what you choose to do with it. Many people who have become spectacularly successful started with nothing but desire and commitment. And there are many others who, though they started out with every advantage in their favor, ended up accomplishing very little.

The race is not won at the starting line. Though it can help to have advantages going in, what really matters is not the going in but the going through. If you wait for the perfect situation, or the perfect mate, or the perfect job, or the perfect business opportunity to come along, you'll be waiting an awfully long time for something that really is not worth waiting for. Rather than holding out for the perfect situation, work with what you have right here and now. While others wait for what they'll probably never have, and flounder aimlessly amidst their daydreams and wistful longings, you can be moving ahead using what you already have available to you. Chose your path carefully, then make the most of it!

The best resources are the ones that you can effectively utilize in pursuit of your goals and dreams. And the ones you can utilize are the ones you have. Though what you have is far from ideal, it is precisely what you need to move forward. Make use of what you have, and you will surely move yourself toward whatever you desire.

PERSISTENCE IS GOLDEN

When you've attempted something and failed to achieve it, then made another attempt and failed yet again, and then failed once more, it can indeed be overwhelmingly disheartening.

It is at this point, at this truly golden mind's eye of your future-past, however, where your persistence becomes truly golden...and the memory of your struggle, alike your ultimate success, becomes the moments of which your life's memories are made.

Because each disappointment you experience not only brings you more knowledge of your adventure and yourself, it also serves as a powerful reminder of why you truly desire to succeed. Waste not all of your youthful motivation and knowledge in dallying, keep going! Persist in what you know that you must accomplish! Experience the power of your disappointment, direct it anew via your persistence, and it becomes a force of it's own which leads you forward. Persist! Adjust course a little if necessary. When persistence powers your vessel, the wind never leaves your sails.

NOW IS HERE

It is always now. Though the future beckons and the past fills up your memories, what you always have, where you always are, is now. The successes that you enjoy are the successes that you work to achieve, not someday, not once upon a time, but...NOW! The road that you choose, the actions that you take, the sole path where your future meets your past, is the action you follow now. Though the past may still echo, though the future beckons with the promising whispers of the sirens, now is your time and not theirs, and now is your only flickering instant of glory, when you are making things happen.

What are you waiting for? Now is here. This is your time...your time to live, to accomplish, to learn, to have fun, to move forward, to laugh, to love, to create, and most importantly, to make a difference.

Every opportunity, every possibility that exists, exists now.

Make it the best it can be.

A POSITIVE OUTLOOK

A positive outlook does not depend on any particular circumstance. A positive outlook costs you nothing; yet it can bring you so very much.

The reason to be positive is not because of what has or has not already happened; it is because of how your positive outlook shapes the future.

Your positive outlook enables you to see possibilities that exist amidst all life's problems and obstacles; it will energize your actions and keep you focused on moving forward!

Is it naive to be positive, is it mere wishful thinking?

Most certainly not!
Though it be foolish to ignore reality, it’s even more foolish to give in to negativity when reality becomes too difficult. Every life is filled with positive possibilities. The more you acknowledge, accept and pursue them, the better off you'll be.

ESCAPE YOUR ASSUMPTIONS

Assumptions are essential.

Without making assumptions, we would be paralyzed by the need to think through every little detail of life. As we depend heavily on our assumptions, so it is important that they be accurate.

Be wary, though! Often we become so accustomed to and familiar with our assumptions that we rarely dare or even think to question them. Yet conditions change. People change. I change. You change. The world changes. You may still be acting on assumptions you originally developed years ago, while there's a good chance that many no longer hold true.

What have you done lately to examine and challenge your assumptions? Like a ship's anchor, your assumptions can keep you steady and stable, yet if your ship is to be useful, it must sail. And to sail, you need raise your anchor and unfurl your sails.

If you hold too firmly to your assumptions, you're likely to be stuck in one place. Make it a point to regularly challenge your assumptions; some will survive the challenge and continue to prove valuable, while others, to your surprise and delight you'll cast off to the past.

Free yourself from worn-out assumptions, keep your thinking fresh, and move your life forward.

BE THANKFUL !

Some people look at the world around them and see endless problems. Others look at the same world and see unlimited opportunities. Likewise, some people look at their job and see a way to just get by, become discouraged, and make excuses for their failure, while others see in the same toil endless possibilities, become enthusiastic, and ultimately find ways in which they can distinguish themselves

What do you see?

What you see depends not on what's there so much as it depends on what you're looking for.

What you are and what you can be; what you have, and what you accomplish depends not on where you look, but on what you decide to see.

WHAT DO YOU SEE ?

Some people look at the world around them and see endless problems. Others look at the same world and see unlimited opportunities. Still more people look at their job and see merely a way to just get by, while others see in the same task a way in which they can distinguish themselves, its endless possibilities, and become enthusiastic.

Since time immortal, humanity has divided into separate cultures...each unique, each special, and each claiming to see the world the way it ought to be.

What do you see?

What you see depends not on what's there so much as it depends on what you're looking for.

BE THANKFUL !

Be thankful for this day, and you will fill it with joy. Be appreciative of those around you, and they will bring much value to your life. Be grateful for your opportunities, and you'll find yourself making the most of them. Be thankful for what you have, and you'll get more from it. Be grateful for the challenges, and they will help you become stronger.

Appreciate the dark, cloudy days as well as the bright, sunny days.

Consider how very fortunate you are. Consider it often.

The more you count your blessings, the more there will be to count.

FORGIVENESS

Have you ever carried a grudge for a long time, and then finally let it go? What a wave of relief it is when you decide to forgive–a cleansing and refreshing freedom!

When you've been hurt, does it make sense to perpetuate the hurt? No, of course not. No one would want to do that. And yet, we are often so reluctant to forgive.

Forgiveness does not mean that you must trust them or allow them into a position where they may hurt you once more.

Forgiveness means simply moving on.

Forgiveness does not have to make you any less vigilant or any more vulnerable. Forgiveness does not mean that what happened was acceptable. It means that you've chosen to no longer let it hold you back. There is no real benefit, either large or small, which follows from being a victim.

Practice forgiveness and you'll free your spirit to live positively each day, unburdened by the past mistakes of others.

EXCELLENCE IN LIFE

You feel cheated when you invest your hard-earned money in a product and it turns out to be nothing more than a worthless piece of junk. Naturally, you seek to trade the fruits of your labors for something of value.

Do you have the same high standards when it comes to the way you spend your time? Don’t we all feel that our time, fleeting though it seems, is priceless? Thus, when you spend your precious time, it's important to get something of high value in return.

The path to value is the path of excellence. This be true; invest your time in creating a life of excellence. And whatever you do, do it with passion! Make it count for something, give the best you have to the effort!

By doing something halfway, you only cheat yourself out of irreplaceable opportunities.

Follow your passion! There surely is a wealth of excellence within you raging against your inner barriers. Let it happen...let it flow. Be fully alive! Cultivate excellence in your life, appreciate excellence in the world around you, and live each moment to its fullest.

COMMITMENT

True commitment is serious and it is omnipotent. The actions behind your commitment speak more than the wisest parable and taste sweeter than the finest wine.

True commitment is unconditional, for to be committed means to be totally, absolutely committed. Commitment is the sacrifice necessary in placing someone above thyself in everything you do. In this light, commitment adjusts to reality and moves forward.

Some may suggest that you can know fulfillment without the gritty effort of commitment. They are sadly mistaken. Real, solid commitment is real work. And well worth it. The evidence is overwhelming, while the end-results become truly staggering.

RESPONSIBILITY

In life, the things that you become responsible for are the things over which you have control. It’s funny, though at first, if you attempt to seize control, you're usually met with fierce resistance. Yet, when you then offer to accept responsibility, you're welcomed with open arms.

As we know and hear frequently, people are quick to claim "it's not my responsibility."

Lo, they cheat themselves! By doing thus, they deny themselves the best opportunities!

If you desire to have an influence, if you desire to make an impact, you must be willing to take responsibility. Those who fail to exercise their responsibilities quickly lose them. Those who step up and take responsibility when no one else will, consistently expand their level of influence and authority. And thus, they expand their influence, effectiveness, and achievements.

With each demand for responsibility, there follows an enormous opportunity. Those who have the foresight to accept responsibility will rise quickly to ever-increasing success.

BALANCE

To move effectively forward in life, you need stop on a regular basis. A tree does not grow to its full, magnificent height in a single season. Rather, it grows for a few months, sheds all its leaves, and becomes temporarily dormant. After a period of rest, the tree sprouts a whole new set of leaves and begins to grow upward again.

Likewise, life is a cycle of effort and rest. The effectiveness of each depends on the other. Get enough rest, and you'll be more effective in your efforts. Put your energy into your actions, and you'll rest well.

Manage your efforts wisely, as scurrying to and fro will only wear you out, and likely lead to your failure. Thus, move steadily and forcefully forward then stop for a while. Consider where you are, how you got here, and where you will go next. Even the most carefully planned route requires frequent mid-course corrections. So, take a regular break to get your bearings. Then move on ahead, refreshed, full of energy, and headed exactly toward where you desire.

I don't know....

Originally english was a conglomorate of Old English, Latin, Greek, and a couple of other languages. It is a bastard and just continues to be.

It is understandable that people continue to use slang; pussy, cock, fuck. I guess it is a question of if the slang is understood or not? If it isn't then it is like talking in Korean to a English speaker. It is jibberish.

I think people fail to realize how important communicating is, and how words taht we find common are just slang.

Yes English is dying language. I guess Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady was right. It is sad really when you cant communicate in your native tongue because people tend to butcher the language. It is everywhere especially in the media. I am embarrassed at times to hear people speak. What the hell is 'conversate'? the worst yet is the word 'misunderestimate'. When you add slang to the mix you might as well be speaking Aramaic. I agree with you that people should use words that others can understand. At least its a start to an intellectual conversation.

Slang is a way of communicating. I have to agree it is not always a good way especially when you are trying to get a date. However it's not hard to pick up on the lingo.

wassup=what's up? player hater= it means you hate a guy or girl who try to be a player of the opposite sex.(same as don't hate the player, hate the game)

whaddup dog? =whats up dog dog=a friend or a buddy.

Homie= is a home town friend.

also the word "sup" means the same thing.

It's ok not to understand certain languages but slang is not like meeting someone who speaks a different language, if you dont understand them they could be cussing you out, at least with slang you can sort of understand it.

usually when someone ask me whassup, I say, nuttin! hit them back with something equally stupid.

I am the real deal! "Come Get Me!!!"

It's a little old now, but I never really understood the term "get jiggy with it". I think most slang is an attempt by the new generation to differentiate themselves from the current establishment. It’s a way to establish boundaries and inclusiveness at the same time. I’m not a linguist, but I suspect that much of languages historical evolution is due to slang. How else did Old Germanic evolve into English and Deutch?

ike401- the PG area is a mecca for nude photography. I only spent three days there and found dozens of ideal sites (and I wasn't really even looking!). I’ll give one away in the hopes 1playful will take it up

I spent about an hour at the Railway museum and saw nobody outside except a groundskeeper. I think one of the old sleeper cars they have there would be an awesome photo site. Smells a bit musty, but you don’t smell a picture (yet) and the lighting was such that you could see out the windows, but nobody could see in. Also, sound carried well and you’d have plenty of warning of anyone approaching on board.
