I used to feed them, but being a sugar-daddy for flamboyant creatures that show their peckers while giving hum jobs makes me feel like a pervert. I don't mind being a pervert, mind you, but I like to choose my own perversions.

Reminds me of something my mom told me. She has a friend that has about 6 or 7 semi wooded acres. She hangs numerous hummingbird feeders on the property. While she's out working in the pasture the hummingbirds will come find her and buzz her if the feeders are empty. They won't leave her alone until they are filled again!

Smart birds if you ask me.

Hi Satin and Welcome

They sure do...and I see them at many different flowers too. Where I live we have something called red honeysuckle vines and they really love those Most of the ones at my house I think have gotten lazy, they come to the feeder before trying to find the flowers But I don't blame them for that...it's easy food

Thanks for your comment and come again anytime

Hi Mid
Your most welcome I've been making this for years..and I have a swarm of them always around my feeder Have you ever heard one chirp? They make this tiny little chirp..it sounds cute Mine is hanging on my porch and they fly at our heads too I keep my eyes shut for fear their beak will go into my eyes!
The males can be aggressive. They will actually "chest butt" each other trying to keep each other away from the feeder!

If you try this...it will probably take several days before they find your feeder but hang on...if any is in your area..they will find it

Hugs
Silver

Your welcome. I've made this for years and the birds love it. I always have a bunch of them at my feeder. I love watching them too...they move so fast and once they find your feeder, they will keep coming back about every 15 to 20 minutes. It may take them several days to find it when you first put it up...but if any are around...they will find it

Good Luck...( let me know if any show up at work)

Watching the hummers is one thing I always look forward too when the weather gets warm I've been feeding them for years and we always have a bunch that come here When I have to take the feeder down to wash it and refill it...they act like they get mad! They will sit on a tree branch or power line waiting for you to bring it back out!

Hugs

Hi Teaser ( thanks for the bling..I got it

They are very smart birds...very smart indeed! They get mad when I have to wash and refill mine! They sit and wait for me to bring it back out! If we are standing too close to the feeder, they swarm out our heads to run us off! I've always had a fear they were going to hit me in the eye with their pointed beaks!

I like watching the males. They are aggressive to each other...will chest butt each other to run the other one off!

Hi Duggy
Well, I see you have changed your picture This is a good one of you

Our state bird is the Cardinal. The males are so pretty and red...especially pretty in the sun. In fact, I just saw one sitting on the fence beside me!

I've never seen the Zoo York pigeons except on TV We don't have many pigeons here where I live around homes. We do have some downtown and they hang around buildings though. But we have something called the "Mourning Dove" and they are gray. They have a unique sound...one I like but it does sound a little sad.

You and Mo enjoy those birds I love watching them too

Hugs
Silver

Hi Mid
I think a hummingbird tatt would be great!!!! I don't know what the native american print would be though
Hummers look different in different areas. The kind we have here is called the ruby throated hummers. You can see some good pictures of these on the web. The males have the ruby throat and beautiful green feathers. The females have white throats and they don't have brilliant colors the males have.

I think a butterfly and hummer would be great as tatts. To tell you the truth...I got my tatt 17 years ago and at that time I picked out a rose. But since then, I have always wished I had gotten a butterfly.

When you get these, if you can take a picture and post them..I would love to see them

Hugs
Silver

Hi Bill
I've been feeding these little birds for years and I just love to watch them

This is the recipe I use...it's easy and simple to make. So much of what you buy has the red dye in it...and it's not good for the birds.

I hope your daughter-in-law can use it and find it helpful....

Hugs
Silver

Our family has been using 2/3 cup sugar.
Pour sugar into the feeder and fill the rest of the feeder with water. I think its alittle more than a cup of water! And the birds just won't leave it alone for one minute!

Hi Bonna
I'm not sure what size feeder your talking about But, if it's just a one cup feeder...you just use 1/4 cup of sugar. Giving them too much sugar may not be a good idea.

Hi Mike
I was wondering about Florida...if you get hummers there. I wonder why you don't Maybe it's too hot and humid I'm not sure really...
That's rather odd that you don't though Our birds fly south for the winter...but I don't know just how far south I guess that will give me something to check into

If they ever find the feeder..it's on then!! They will keep on coming back..looking for that food!

When you go to Clayton...give this a try...see what happens Let me know if you do and you see some hummers
You should be seeing the "ruby throated hummers". If you see any...the males have the red throats...the females have white throats...

Good Luck....

Hi M
Back when my son was still in school, we bought a book on birds and would try to identify them. It was fun looking them up and we saw several that normally aren't in our area. I've always wanted to see a hummingbird nest but they are VERY high up in a tree...and very small. Most female hummers just lay 2 eggs and the eggs are the size of white dried Navy beans.

I use to know how fast a hummers heart beat..but I have forgotten. I know their wings go so fast...they sound like bees!

Your sister has a good hobby....that would be fun to do!
