i think everyone at some point in life either has or will be fucked royally by an insurance company!!! It is a law in my state you have to have insurance on a vehicle, if you don't you are punished severely....but who "punishes" them when they don't live up to their end of the bargain? it is not cool at all...I feel your pain!!!

Allstate got in big trouble here for not settling claims. They fought it all the way to the State Supreme Court. It just happened to be up the hill being reviewed when my case came up. Same thing, they had archived my case, claimed it wasn't me in the accident {even though they had given me a thousand dollars for my initial doctor bills}. Then they said the case was closed. I took them to court, the judges hated Allstate and I had it easy street, yeah if you can call dealing with insurance companies easy. Well, I settled out of court. I was tired of fighting them tooth and nail. The judge was a great defender of justice.
What cracked me up was when we were in the court room and the judge asked if we had met for arbitration. I asked the Judges pardon, I did not know who the man was I was standing next to and had never got a response from them about arbitration.
The judge was furious. Asked him why and he said they were going to deal with it later in the week... and that she {me} could have made the appointment as easy as they. Well, the Judge did not like the condensending attitude and reamed him a new one. She said it was his duty as a lawyer to set an example in the courts. I was representing myself and was doing a darn good job of grabbing the hoops they held out for me and would make them jump first. Now the Judge was making him eat crow.
I loved watching him dragging three crates of documents like the knuckles of a cave man, supposedly meant to intimidate me. Well, My little shark skin briefcase was more intimidating... because it was empty! I knew I would not be presenting in court that day so I just brought my little briefcase for show. My show was great, his was heavy. Never saw that bastard again. Turned out he was the head lawyer for his firm. He always liked to show up for the big shows.
Three days later, I was in arbitration, counting the zeros after the $1...

i live in england. i have been done over by an insurance company but was really lucky that nothing happened. i specifiacally asked that third party was part of it as i have to drive other vehicles quite a lot (just not enough to have to pay extra to drive them) ive done that for more than two years (never getting being pulled over and having to produce my insurance or having a collision etc) when i phoned up to renew it and found out that they had never given me third party and i had been driving illegally in the other cars.

My insurance doubled last year. I had never had a claim...ever. I called to find out why, and was told that my ex-husband had an impaired charge..and because we once lived together, and were still living in close proximity, and because the original policy was in his name, I was being penalized. The only way for me to lower my rate back down was to get him to write and remove himself from my policy(which he didn't) I had to finally get a notarized letter stating that I lived by myself and never let him use my vehicles...my rate was lowered but I never got back the money I paid out while I was trying to fix thier mess. I feel for ya spunk...really I do.

Happens every day, and unfortunately, by design, by most Insurance companies, who continually prey on the ignorance of the laws of their respective states by policy owners. Having been such a victim in the past, and witnessed my Sister, an unemployed/disabled lady the victim of GEICO's refusing to pay (until ordered to do so) a claim they were bound to pay.....and seeing all to often how various companies seek to take advantage of the very people who have been paying their salaries, is disgusting. Correctable? Absolutely, by the Insurance Commissioner and the Congress of whichever State the decadent insurers happen to be operating in. That just sucks, doesn't it???

Just checking in Bro. Benn out for a while.
Here's a thought (get hold of something, you know how my mind works). Take a sample of the seagull droppings and wino urine and stir them together with the dip stick from the car. Have that mixture analyzed by some 'Tree Hugger' organization. Forward their findings to the Department of Conservation. Hell, you may qualify for some type of government aid. (Just thinking).

I've had two claims in my entire driving lifetime - once was a write-off, and once a repair. My insurance company paid out quickly, got a cheque for my wreck and covered the repair.
Maybe it's because I've been with the same company for 27 years...

I've only had one major claim. During the blizzard of '93, part of an elm tree broke under the weight of the snow and fell. It knocked the electric service down from the side of the house and burned out a transformer in the furnace before we lost power altogether. It also caved in our metal porch roof.
The adjuster estimated the damage at about $1,200. He said I could come back to them for more money if the estimate fell short. But I did most of the work myself and actually made money on the deal despite a $500 deductible.
In my case, the rip-off is that I've paid out so much for insurance over the year and collected so little.
The pic is reminds me of a largemouth bass I found dead on the shore. It also died with a fish in it's mouth that barely fit there. I guess the largemouth's mouth was not as big as his eyes.

Me no likey the INsurance Thives. The first time auto incident, I had two policies on my car and didn't even know it. Young and dumb when it came to that stuff. Car totalled, and no one came to say "crap" to me??? I never got a bill, so thought I was off the hook, I think it was my fault, but didn't get a ticket, only a ride to the hospital. lol That was my one and only dealing with "BAD InsThives" ... it's political. Heck, EVEN FEMA will pay for your damaged car, just send title and pic if declared. AS for lightening strikes? An act of GOD doesn't hold chit, unless you have a rider policy for such things. At least it didn't in TX ... go figure? Good luck sweetie! Hope things improve on your end. Damn, I think I have GECHO too??? Now you are going to make me look up my policy!!!

Oh, yeah. In 1995, with the lovely "Farm" company. They made me wait in their lobby for half an hour for an appointment, completely forgetting that I could see their agent just goofing off in my line of sight as she ignored our appointed time.
My $3,000 worth of damage was paid out at only $1,500 (my deductable was only $500 - go figure!), and I had to both control my temper for dealing with that idiot as well as fight to get my car repaired vs. written off. (The damages were all surfacy and not integral to the safe operation of the car).
The minute they made insurance "mandatory", the scam factor increased 10 fold. Sheesh ! Hang in there, Jeff. I hope things will get better for you.
Regards, 2Shy

Everybody in China who didn't have it; then the aftershock wiped out their remainders, all of which would of course NOT have been covered unless by a multinational insurer AND even then it would have probably gone to the Internation Criminal Court.
So to answer briefly, no, I don't want it either.

Jeff , buddy... this tree has many branches as we all know.
I haven't had any problems with auto ins lately, that's because ( knock on wood, cross both legs, walk backwards balancing a pencil on my nose) I haven't had any accidents.
However ,funny you should mention this, because a week and half ago, My house got struck by lightning. Did some minor damage, knocked out 3 phones , phone line, 2 tv's , computer, toaster, 2 clocks, and a few other little items.
I'll have to get back to ya on how protected I am with the good hands folks, as my claim is now pending, and I am once again bracing for the outcome. Not expecting great miracles, as these same good hands folks beat me out of half a roof 6 years ago in a storm. This is where I learned that if you expect no miracles, then you won't be disappointed.
They got a 50% discount on that deal , and I got fucked. They do however demand premiums payments in full, and give no discounts.
Now I'm the kinda of guy , that if your going to fuck me, please by all means, kiss me, hug me, rub me , make me feel like I'm wanted you know ~~!?

Yeepers,,,, I've had a few problems,,, mostly with settling on the value of the car. The one time I got ahead was to have the Insurace company tow the car to repair shop,,,where it was declared a "total",,, well they "low balled" the value,,,but,,,, the repair shop was charging THEM $50 dollars a day to "store" the car. I would remind the adjuster on how mmuch they were loosing,,,everyday,,, and that I was more than willing to wait them out,,,, I got more than "book" after they had paid more $1,500 in "storage",,,, and the repair shop sent me a x-mas card,,,,LOL

At least here in the UK we only have to take out car and property insurance and most of them are pretty good as long as you have read all the small print. You can get healthcare with the NHS without insurance over here. It's not very luxurious but you can see a doctor 24/7 in an emergency yet still people complain about it.

Yeah! Had to use my house insurance for the 1st time in 20 years last summer. Water tank sprung a leak in the basement and had at least 2' all over. Carpet, paneling, all furnishings shot! Plus throw in a new tank. The paid me $5000, barely enough to get new carpet and fix just part of paneling, no new doors and no new furnishings Then they raised my F--- premium! I could see if I was a chronic user but this was the first time ever! What a racket Toots

The only time I WASN'T screwed by insurance companies was quite ironically when I didn't have any insurance.
When I nearly blew up my house doing my "scientific experiments" ( and you all who know me know what I'm sayin' ) I was in really bad debt and has zero health insurance whatsoever.
My hospital bills from having scorched off half my flesh would have totalled over $70,000.00 but because I was assessed at having absolute zero means of paying this back the state awarded me a form of health insurance with zero deductable retroactive to the point at which I committed my big booboo.
Some sort of insurance angel was watching over my ass that night!!!! ( and then some )
