Happily checking through that paragon of fine journalism, The Sun, I came upon this gem. I even cross referenced it with papers in Minneapolis (How is that for responsible blogging).

Now coming from the UK, there are always "interesting characters" running for parliamentary seats. I have not seen quite so many cases of this in the US. Plus Oregon does seem to produce seem extreme candidates in it's own right. However, his ideas are a tad extreme in a Middle Ages kind of way.

Vote for me, says vampire
US Editor

A VAMPIRE who supports public impaling is running for election in the US.

Jonathon Sharkey, 41, aims to be voted Minnesota Governor in November.

And he hopes to become PRESIDENT in 2008.

Ex-wrestler Jonathon, nicknamed the Impaler, bites wife Julie’s neck before drinking her blood.

His Vampyres, Witches and Pagans Party vows to have terrorists, child molesters and drug dealers killed on stakes.

He said: “Other politicians suck the life out of people through taxation.

“I’m going to be totally open and honest.

“Unlike others, I’m not going to hide my evil side.”

Julie, 35, said: “I hope people can see over the fact he drinks my blood. He’s actually very sweet.

What we need is a report from our correspondent on the ground in Minnesota, NaughtyNurseMn to give us a feel for his chances.

There are responsible newspapers in the Twin Cities????

I heard about this man. Apparently when the news came out about his lifestyle choice his neighbors moved to have him evicted; Cause we're open and understanding folks here in the midwest. Never mind that we've already elected one former pro wrestler. This poor bloke doesn't have a chance, simply because hearty midwesterners can't tolerate anymore feather boas.

Someone sent me the link to this guy's campaign website last week. There was nothing about him being a practicing vampire on it. Only the fact he's open about being a Satanist and his party is the VWP... Vampires, Witches and Pagans.

While he doesn't have a chance, I think it's nice to see a politician who admits to being evil for once, instead of practicing evil while using God as a shield.

He wants to drink my WHAT????

I make mistakes, I am out of control & at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best. ~Marilyn

meerkittykat, it would seem that you have the same regard for the Twin Cities finest journalism that I have for the local rag, The Oregonian.

MissAnn, it is a novel approach isn't it - an honest politician.

sil, it would be fun to have this guy wrestle Jesse Ventura. Arnie could be "special guest referee". It screams Pay Per View to me.

Fallic ~ As usual, I love what MissAnn has written. Succinct, appropriate, funny. She's spot-on ten out of ten times!

JennyLynn, it does have some flashes of that doesn't it. Maybe his opponents will be driving the Mystery Machine; if not a stake through his heart.

Saf, I bet our dearly beloved GW is already thinking about where this guy fits into his cabinet.

By the way, did you notice the glaring omission from the world dictator listings in Parade magazine yesterday?
